Readable HTML makes nested elements and component boundaries easier to inspect. Use the formatter to arrange source code before reviewing structure or sharing a small example.
Open the HTML Formatter to follow the workflow. Processing runs in your browser; the tool does not upload the input for conversion.
A practical workflow
- Paste HTML source. Use the example or load a UTF-8 source file.
- Choose indentation. Select two or four spaces for the formatted output.
- Format and inspect. Read the highlighted source and resolve parsing errors before retrying.
- Copy or download. Save the formatted source and review it in your project.
Try a concrete example
The following demonstration input is also available in the workspace. Replace it with your own data after checking the expected behaviour.
<main><h1>Hello</h1><p>Build a better website.</p></main>With the default settings, the result is:
<main>
<h1>Hello</h1>
<p>Build a better website.</p>
</main>
Formatting is different from running a page
This workspace parses the source and writes a formatted version. It does not execute script elements, load linked resources or render an interactive website. This makes it useful for reviewing a snippet without giving pasted code permission to run.
Check the structure after formatting
Consistent indentation can reveal unexpected nesting or a missing closing tag. Formatting does not prove that the document is accessible, semantically appropriate or correct in every browser. Review labels, headings, alternative text and interactive controls separately.
Keep a copy of the original
Formatting changes whitespace and presentation. Save the original if exact source bytes matter. Copy the formatted result into your editor, inspect the change with the Text Diff Checker and run your application checks before deploying it.
If the result needs attention
This is a formatter, not a page preview. Script code in your input is never executed.
Read the exact error before changing the input. Keep a copy of the original, reduce the sample when investigating a large file, and use the destination application to verify that the result has the meaning you intended. The tool processes the supplied data; it cannot infer an unstated application schema or project requirement.
Use the Text Diff Checker to compare a saved result with the original. Keep transformation and application testing as separate steps so presentation changes are not mistaken for verified behaviour.
